St Mary’s Haven Care Home in Penzance, Cornwall

Originally a series of buildings which included St Gertrudes Convent, St Mary’s Haven in Penzance has been a care home for over 30 years and was acquired by Anson Care Services in 2016.

The site also includes a small Chapel and former school room, and plans are already being drawn up to identify ways to expand and improve the home.

St Mary’s is only a short walk from Penzance’s historic town centre with services such as post office, shops, and places to eat.

St Mary’s Haven refurbishment

In 2019, we finished our extensive refurbishment program at St Mary’s to convert some of the older parts of the building into new modern rooms and to create some wonderful new communal space for our residents. The new space includes a new lounge and an indoor garden area with outdoor style lighting and plent of plants.

  • The Fisherman's Arms. Our very own pub which we use to serve our residents soft drinks and teas throughout the day.
  • This room was mainly used for storage. Our plans were to convert this into a period dining space for our residents.
  • The unused part of the buildings had some lovely period features.
  • Our new entrance nearing completion.
  • The refurbishment was a large undertaking, creating a number of additional rooms and communal space for our residents.

  • This lovely new space would eventually feature a Post Office and Teddy Bear Shop, with the carpet resembliing a cobbled street giving the residents a feeling of being out in a village.
